A recent facility realignment under the Signatures Directorate of the Naval Surface Warfare Centers, Carderock Division and subsequent mission addition to ship silencing is also described. The facilities now have the ability to provide the most detailed acoustic data possible. Recent advances in the methods used to conduct surface ship and submarine acoustic trials are described. Government, university, and private sector shallow water acoustic research programs using the range are presented. Specific information on use of the Naval facility for ocean acoustic research is given. A description of the test and evaluation environment is given including a detailed description of the climate and ambient acoustic noise of the shallow water off Fort Lauderdale. Facilities' descriptions include location, the staff, contract support, and support of other activities. A description is given of the test ranges, test types, tracking techniques, marine facilities, and support craft. A description of the major shop facilities and logistic support available is given.
