The process of plane-wave scattering by a sound pulse was considered previously [D. Trivett and P. Rogers, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 76, 1819--1822 (1984)]. Developing this approach, in the present paper the nonlinear scattering of a plane wave on a sound pulse containing a high-frequency carrier propagating at an arbitrary angle in respect to the direction of the plane-wave propagation is considered. It is shown that in addition to the combination tones in the scattered field the waves at Doppler frequencies appear. This feature of the process allows determination of the direction of plane-wave propagation by means of a nonlinear Doppler frequency response.
