Founded in 1964, this laboratory has served as an interdepartmental focal point for research and education in acoustics. Its activities in the fields of random vibrations, flow noise, building and urban acoustics, structural acoustics, machine dynamics, and signal processing are reviewed. Its influence on education in acoustics at MIT and elsewhere is also noted.
