3pUW9. ``Sound in the Ocean:'' A short video.

This video uses several computer models to illustrate the effects of the ocean channel on sound propagation. A Pekeris waveguide shows pulse dispersion and the concepts of group and phase velocity. Data from an experiment [R. H. Ferris, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 52, 981--988 (1972)] is modeled showing how the channel can separate out individual modes. A simple two-medium problem shows the formation of the head wave and effects on reflected and transmitted waves.
