Techniques for modeling a single frequency directional source in an underwater acoustic waveguide are applied and tested. The techniques are evaluated, with regard to accuracy and efficiency, for use in prediction of source performance. Existing discussions of the topic often focus on one technique. Here, the goal is to consider a larger class of methods. They range from mode matching in the far-field, of the source, to the direct application of a free-space beam pattern at range zero. The techniques are applied to problems that arise due to sparseness of calibration data and the inappropriateness of a free-space beam pattern for waveguide applications. [Work supported by ARA.]
