Abstract:

Projection of the expected noise in multifloor or high-rise buildings due to ground-borne vibration from subway trains requires estimating the propagation of the noise up through the buildings via structure-borne transmission. Recent measurements have shown that the actual results can be substantially different than projected based on studies previously reported. Measured data indicate nominal attenuations in the range of 0 dB per floor to 2.5 dB per floor can be expected, depending on building construction configuration. Data for the building types and attenuations measured are presented.
