                           UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON

                    Department of Phonetics and Linguistics

LECTURESHIP IN SPEECH AND HEARING SCIENCES

Applications are invited for a permanent lectureship in the Department of
Phonetics & Linguistics, which has an international reputation for its
research,
and ratings of '5' in the last two RAEs. UCL as a whole provides an
outstanding
research environment, and we enjoy close links with other UCL departments
and
specialist hospitals.

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching at both undergraduate
and
graduate levels on the acoustics of speech production, hearing, and speech
perception (with most students training to be Speech and Language
Therapists).
Teaching experience is essential and an interest in the development of
computer-
based teaching materials would be an advantage. Other duties include
playing an
important role in the reorganisation of one of our undergraduate degree
programmes.

The successful candidate will also be expected to carry out high quality
research in an appropriate scientific area, such as speech production,
speech
perception, auditory processing or laboratory phonology. Evidence of
substantial research achievement, in the form of published papers and/or
research grants obtained, is a prerequisite.

Starting date is negotiable, within the next academic year. The salary will
be
on the Lecturer A/B salary scale (#16,655 - #29,048 per annum plus #2,134
per
annum London Allowance), negotiable for exceptional candidates. Please send
a CV
and letter of application to Prof. Stuart Rosen, Reference 5330, Phonetics
and
Linguistics, University College London, 4 Stephenson Way, London NW1 2HE.
Further details available from Mark Huckvale (M.Huckvale@ucl.ac.uk) and from
our
Web site (http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk).

The closing date for applications is Friday, 16th July 1999.
