Sydney Conservatorium of Music
TYPE: Academic
APPOINTMENT: Continuing
AVAILABILITY: Internal & External REF NO: B21/003793

An opportunity exists for an outstanding researcher to play a key
role in the development of applied research within the Sydney
Conservatorium of Music. The Australian Centre for Applied Research
in Music Performance (ACARMP) is a recent initiative of the
Conservatorium, with the potential to become a major national and
international focal point for research and innovation in a diversity
of areas supporting the pursuit of excellence in music performance.

Working in close collaboration with the Research Director, the
Coordinator will foster interdisciplinary applied research within the
Centre, building links between research in music performance and
research in such areas as acoustics, physiology, psychology, music
therapy, and music perception and cognition.

Essential to the position are a PhD in an area relevant to applied
music research, or equivalent, evidence of capacity to attract
competitive research funding, a strong publications record,
experience in post-graduate supervision and tertiary administrative
experience, preferably in a leadership role. For appointment at level
C, it is desirable that applicants postgraduate supervision
experience be extensive and that they have a track record in
attracting national competitive grants. Also desirable for
appointment at level C is a demonstrated ability to provide
faculty-wide leadership in research and a developing national and
international profile as evidenced by membership of appropriate
boards and committees, and invitations to conferences and other
events. The successful applicant will demonstrate an ongoing
commitment to applied research in music and will demonstrate the
potential to provide collegial, faculty-wide leadership in research.
While the substantive focus of the role will be the development of
applied research, research supervision and a continuing personal
contribution to the research output of ACARMP, some undergraduate and
post-graduate teaching will be required.

The position is full-time continuing, subject to the completion of a
satisfactory probation and/or confirmation period for new appointees.
Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a
condition of employment for new appointees. Appointment to this
position is subject to the provisions of the NSW Child protection
legislation. Relevant criminal history, apprehended violence orders
and prior employment checks, including relevant disciplinary
proceedings, will be conducted on the preferred applicant.

Level of appointment and responsibility will be commensurate with
qualifications and experience.
