Extraction really is not a good word for this because it implies that the envelope is contained in the original data. It isn't.re: the impression that the psychophysics implied a wider band than the physiologists were able to observe. It may be due to neural reconstitution. I would be surprised if it was otherwise.We percieve more detail than the eye produces too.Dave
