NAVIG: Un dispositif d?aide à la navigation
pour les utilisateurs non-voyants et mal-voyants

Une bourse post-doctorale en psychologie cognitive, financée par l?Agence
Nationale de la Recherche (ANR), est proposée par le LIMSI-CNRS. Le
post-doctorat commence le 1er septembre 2009 pour une période d?un an,
renouvelable pour une seconde année, en fonction des préférences du candidat
et de son évaluation.

NAVIG est un projet multidisciplinaire et innovant, comportant des aspects à
la fois fondamentaux et appliqués dans le domaine de la substitution
sensorielle. L?objectif du projet est de mieux connaître les processus de
représentation de l'espace chez les personnes mal-voyantes et d?améliorer
leur autonomie dans les activités de navigation (par exemple, arriver à
destination et éviter les obstacles). Une description détaillée est

Le travail consistera en la conception et la conduite d'expérimentations
avec des participants non-voyants, mal-voyants et voyants, à la fois en
environnement contrôlé de laboratoire et en milieu naturel urbain. Le
travail inclura également des évaluations ergonomiques du dispositif en
cours de construction. Le poste est basé au LIMSI-CNRS, sur le campus
d'Orsay de l?Université de Paris-Sud. Cependant, les expériences en milieu
urbain seront conduites à Toulouse en partenariat avec l?IRIT et l?Institut
des Jeunes Aveugles (institut impliqué dans le projet).

Une bonne connaissance et une pratique des méthodes de la psychologie
expérimentale sont requises. Les expériences avec les non-voyants se
dérouleront en français et par conséquent une connaissance de la langue
française est préférable. Enfin, bien qu'elle ne soit pas un pré-requis, une
expérience préalable du candidat avec des personnes non-voyantes constituera
un élément positif.

Le salaire net est de 2038 euros par mois.

NAVIG: A device to assist navigation
for blind and low-vision users

Proposal for a post-doctoral position

A post-doc position in cognitive psychology is open at LIMSI-CNRS, starting
September 1, 2009. The position is funded by a grant from the Agence
Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) for a period of one year, renewable for a
second year, depending on the candidate's preference and on our evaluation
of the candidate's capacities.

NAVIG is a multidisciplinary and innovative project, with both fundamental
and applied aspects in the field of sensory substitution. The aim of the
project is to better understand the processes involved in the representation
of space by low-vision people and to augment their autonomy in navigational
tasks (e.g., arriving at destination and avoiding obstacles). A detailed

The work will consist in designing and conducting experiments with blind,
low-vision, and sighted control participants both in laboratory settings and
in natural urban environments. It will also include ergonomic tests of the
device under construction. While the position is open at LIMSI-CNRS, which
is located in the Orsay campus of the University of Paris-Sud, the
experiments in natural urban environments will be conducted in the city of
Toulouse in close partnership with the IRIT and the Institut des Jeunes
Aveugles (an association of blind and low-level vision people involved in
the project).

Good knowledge and practice of experimental psychology methods are required.
The experiments with blind persons will be conducted in French and as a
consequence basic skills in speaking French are preferable. Although not
being a prerequisite, the candidate's previous experience with blind
participants will be considered as an added value.

The net salary is 2038 euros per month.
