Opportunity: Senior Scientist Audio - BBC R&D



The BBC's Research & Development department is recruiting a Senior Scientist to join the Audio Research Group (http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/topics/audio).  The closing date for applications is 6th January 2014.
It's an opportunity be part of a research team developing future audio services for broadcasting and online media, bringing the best audio experience to audiences and join an interdisciplinary lab in the vibrant city of Manchestre, UK.

You will conduct and lead research in the BBC Audio Research Partnership on a national and international level. A key area will be to formulate and develop new and innovative ideas in this field while evaluating new concepts and designs in the light of current and future workflows as well as audience experiences. As a Senior Scientist you are expected to provide your expertise and experience in other areas of R&D, sharing ideas and knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to the highest of standards, leading audio research including future content creation to content consumption in interdisciplinary teams and projects.
  • Collaborate with our academic partners and mentor graduate engineers and students from MSc to PhD level..
  • Propose possible methods and techniques for projects, innovating where necessary, developing the required technical skill through training and self-development.
  • Carry out work in accordance to project plans and within the estimated costs and resources.

Skills

  • Extensive background in audio engineering and audio research and development which may include specialist knowledge in spatial sound capture and synthesis or digital processing for digital audio effects or semantic audio.
  • A good knowledge and understanding in psychoacoustic and subjective evaluation of systems and algorithms.
  • Software development skills using at least two of the following technologies: C/C++, HTML5, WebAudioAPI, _javascript_, XML, iOS, Android, Python, Java, Ruby, MATLAB.
