Researcher Position at NCRAR, Portland VAMC



Auditory/Vestibular Researcher at the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR), Portland VA Medical Center: 
Seeking researchers at the Associate Professor or Professor rank, particularly with specialization in any of the following areas: 
hearing aid signal processing, cochlear implants, electrophysiological measures, vestibular diagnostics and rehabilitation. 

Required qualifications: 
           Earned Ph.D. in hearing science, audiology or a related field, e.g., psychology, neuroscience, engineering. 
           Strong record of research/scholarly activity
           Track record of successfully obtaining independent research funding
Rank & Salary: Commensurate with experience.

The NCRAR is housed within a dedicated 20,000 sq. ft. research facility located at the Portland VA Medical Center (PVAMC), and includes ten double-wall sound-attenuation suites, a large anechoic chamber, a Balance lab with an off-axis rotary chair and research grade balance platform, and a VNG lab. Established in 1997, NCRAR is one of fifteen national Centers of Excellence (CoE) funded by the VA Rehabilitation Research and Development Service, but the only such center dedicated to the discovery and delivery of cutting-edge solutions to auditory system impairments and balance dysfunction. NCRAR rehabilitation researchers, including 14 principal investigators, effectively leverage a substantial infrastructure of shared equipment and facilities resources, as well as biostatistics, engineering and research administration support services to compete for investigator-initiated, peer-reviewed research funding. The NCRAR prides itself on its use of a multi-disciplinary approach to research that focuses on the rehabilitation of hearing and balance disorders in Veterans, and the translation of this research into clinical practice. NCRAR carries out clinical trials, develops technologies, and plays an important role in cultivating the next generation of auditory researchers through education and mentoring programs. The CoE is closely allied with the Oregon Health & Science University Departments of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Bioengineering and Neurology. Salary support for all investigator positions is obtained through investigator-initiated awards and grants.
