[AUDITORY] PhD position proposal in France

A 3 years funded PhD position in Auditory Neuroscience (The Neurosciences and Cognition Doctoral School, Lyon university, France) is available in the Lyon neuroscience Research Center, Dycog Team, under the joint supervision of Annie Moulin and Aurélie Bidet-Caulet. This position is funded by the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region, within the framework of a larger project aimed at studying listening effort in normally hearing and hearing impaired individuals, using a combination of subjective and objective techniques (EEG, pupillometry).

An abnormal increase of listening effort, especially in noisy environments, is observed in several pathologies with very different origins, such as hearing-impairment due to age, auditory processing disorders and hidden hearing losses. The project is at the interface between fundamental and clinical research, with the aim of designing new methods to explore listening effort in several pathologies and to sort out differences in listening effort depending on the origin of the deficit. This program involves close collaboration with the Neuro-Dol laboratory of Clermont-Ferrand, France (neuro-sensory Biophysics team), hearing-aid specialists and several industrial partners.

The work involves experimental design and data collection in humans, including children and hearing-impaired patients, classical signal processing, statistical data analysis and reports/papers writing.

Required skills:

·        MSc in neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, acoustics, biomedical engineering, audiology or similar.

·        Good programming skills (Matlab°, Python°)

·        Excellent English writing skills

·        Excellent oral communication skills in French (communication with French native hearing-impaired patients and families)

·        Knowledge of auditory neuroscience and/or psychoacoustics and/or EEG and/or audiology are a plus.

·        Experience of conducting human volunteer studies, working with patients or people with hearing loss are a plus.

Interested candidates please contact annie.moulin@xxxxxxx and aurelie.bidet-caulet@xxxxxxxxx with a CV and a reference letter. The post should begin ideally in September 2018.
