The Speech and Language Program in the MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development is seeking a Senior Researcher in Infant Studies. The MARCS Institute for Brain, Behaviour and Development is an interdisciplinary research institute of Western Sydney University. Our programs of research investigate human communication through the themes: sensing and perceiving, interacting with each other, and technologies for humans. Researchers in MARCS come from many disciplines including developmental psychology, language science, music science, cognitive neuroscience, and biomedical, electrical, electronic and software engineering. The Senior Researcher in Infant Studies is the academic leader of the MARCS Institute Babylab and will be responsible for leading, promoting, and developing research engagement associated with the BabyLab and ensuring that the BabyLab is nationally and globally recognised for high-quality, high-impact engaged research. The appointee will conduct laboratory-based research with infants and children in an area or areas associated with MARCS foci, such as research on (1) early speech and language development, which may include bilingual/multilingual, and children facing adverse conditions including risk for dyslexia, specific learning impairment (SLI), and/or sensory deficits such as hearing impairment; (2) communicative development more broadly, such as social-emotional and non-verbal communication, possibly including communication with avatar/robot interlocutors; and/or (3) perceptual and cognitive foundations of musical and dance appreciation and skill development. 

To be successful, you will have a relevant qualification in Psychology and/or experience in conducting laboratory-based research in infant studies, infant development, speech perception, psycholinguistics and/or psychology/cognitive science/cognitive neuroscience. You will have a strong international standing and research reputation and demonstrated experience in writing research reports and success with major competitive grants and research partnerships. Remuneration Package: Academic Level C, $143,550 to $164,668 per annum (comprising Salary $121,424 to $139,474 p.a., 17 % Superannuation and Leave Loading)
