The Department of Psychology at Swarthmore College announces a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in the fall semester, 2022. We seek a Behavioral Neuroscientist who uses (and can engage bright undergraduates in) psychopharmacological or other technical approaches to study the genetic, molecular/cellular, and/or circuit/systemic bases of behavior. Particular attention will be given to applicants who complement or enrich existing departmental strengths in clinical, cognitive, cultural, developmental, physiological, and/or social psychology. We seek an individual with both a strong commitment to teaching and an active research program that can involve bright undergraduates. Teaching responsibilities will include intermediate and advanced undergraduate courses in behavioral neuroscience (perhaps including an Introduction to Neuroscience course), supervision of student research projects, and possibly courses in introductory psychology and/or research methods. Laboratory resources include a sole-occupied state-of-the-art suite in the shared vivarium of the new Singer Hall (
https://www.swarthmore.edu/facilities-management/maxine-frank-singer-hall), which houses the Biology, Engineering, and Psychology Departments, as well as the possibility for occupancy of a human behavioral lab. The courses and seminars of the department are designed to provide a sound understanding of the principles and methods of psychology. Students learn the nature of psychological inquiry and psychological approaches to various problems encountered in the humanities, the social sciences, and the life sciences. Areas of specialization are open. Must have Ph.D. in hand by August 2022. Some teaching experience is preferred.

The teaching statement should describe the applicant’s interests in teaching at an undergraduate institution, previous teaching experience, and approach to teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
