[AUDITORY] Software Package for Psychoacoustic Experiments

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the availability of a software package for running auditory experiments. The package, called “PSYCHOACOUSTICS”, was written by Aleksander P. Sęk and Brian C. J. Moore. The software runs on any PC (not Apple) with a good-quality sound card (preferably an external sound card) and a set of headphones. Use of the software does not require any specialised programming skills. The software should be useful for students of psychoacoustics and related disciplines, such as audiology and audio engineering, who want to try psychoacoustic experiments for themselves. The software should also be useful for researchers who want to run experiments without the need to spend time writing computer software to generate the stimuli, run the experiment, and gather the data.

The software can be downloaded from

or

Comprehensive instructions for using the software, including the initial calibration procedure, are contained in a new and remarkably cheap book: Sęk, A. P., and Moore, B. C. J. (2021). Guide to PSYCHOACOUSTICS (Adam Mickiewicz University Press, Poznan, Poland), pp. 348. DOI: 10.14746/amup.9788323239321

Within a single volume, the book contains a version in Polish and a version in English. You can buy the book via the publisher's website:

Click on the small EN at the top of the web page to get some of the information in English.

We hope that you will find the software useful.
