[AUDITORY] SMPC Mentorship committee presents Career talks

Invitations-to-Industry Career Talks for Music Science Scholars

Grads and postdocs: Are you curious about industry positions that draw on music science experience and expertise?

Come hear from music/auditory cognition scholars, on how they made the leap to rewarding industry careers!

The SMPC Mentorship Committee is excited to launch an inaugural series of industry career talks this coming spring. SMPC has partnered with The Erdős Institute to create a music cognition track within the Invitations to Industry program, hosting industry professionals with backgrounds in music cognition to talk about their career paths and give tips for transitioning into industry. The goal is to help early career researchers get a clear understanding of career opportunities outside of academia, and provide opportunities for Q&A and networking.

Our inaugural speakers are:

  • Steve Keller (Feb 24, 12pm ET), Sonic Strategy Director, Studio Resonate (SXM Media’s in-house audio-first creative consultancy). Audio consultant for Pandora, SiriusXM, and Soundcloud.

  • Stefanie Hutka (Mar 24, 12 pm ET), UX (User Experience) Research Lead, Facebook Reality Labs; previously at Adobe. UToronto PhD.

  • Brian Hurley (Apr 28, 12pm ET), Data Scientist and Machine Learning Engineer, Apple; previously at Facebook. UC Davis PhD.

Seminars will be held over Zoom, on Thursdays at 12 pm ET. These talks will be especially useful for grads or post-docs considering alt-ac careers; folks from all career stages are welcome.

If you would like to attend, please sign up (for free!) to receive Zoom links by email, at https://www.erdosinstitute.org/invitations-to-industry
