It may be of interest to you that Sennheiser are selling again "for a limited period only" the HD414 earphone. We (and others) have used these as a laboratory earphone for several years. They have a response that mimics the free-field response of the ear reasonably accurately (e.g. the response at the eardrum has a peak around 2.5 - 3 kHz). They are not quite as accurate as the Etymotic ER4s in this respect, but they are light and comfortable to wear, and they don't require individual eartips (unlike the ER4s which are insert phones).
