This forthcoming European-funded project will, among other things, work towards strengthening the links between speech recognition and complex auditory phenomena such as scene analysis. RESPITE is currently negotiating its contract, and is planned to run from January 1999 for 3 years. RESPITE will research new methodologies for Automatic Speech Recognition based on missing-data theory and multiple classification streams. It will provide a link between ASR and models of hearing, particularly work in Computational Auditory Scene Analysis, which it will also support. In-car applications and cellular telephone recognition will be targeted.
