Dear List - I'd be grateful for you to pass on the enclosed announcement of available research positions to anyone who might be interested. This forthcoming European-funded project will, among other things, work towards strengthening the links between speech recognition and complex auditory phenomena such as scene analysis. RESPITE is currently negotiating its contract, and is planned to run from January 1999 for 3 years. RESPITE will research new methodologies for Automatic Speech Recognition based on missing-data theory and multiple classification streams. It will provide a link between ASR and models of hearing, particularly work in Computational Auditory Scene Analysis, which it will also support. In-car applications and cellular telephone recognition will be targeted. The RESPITE partners are * Speech and Hearing Research Group, Department of Computer Science, University of Sheffield, GB (coordinator). * Daimler-Benz Research, Ulm, DE. * FPMs Mons, BE. * Institute Communication Parle, Grenoble, FR. * IDIAP, Martigny, CH. * MATRA Communications, Bois d'Arcy, FR. * ICSI, Berkeley, CA, USA will be involved as a subcontractor. Applicants should have a Ph.D or equivalent research experience. If you are interested, send your CV and the names and addresses of two referees to the address below. Indicate what aspects of RESPITE interest you, and when you expect to be available. ---- ********************************* Dr Phil Green Speech and Hearing Research Group Department of Computer Science University of Sheffield Regent Court 211 Portobello St., Sheffield S1 4DP UK phone: (44) 114 22 21828 fax: (44) 114 22 21810 <<== NOTE NEW FAX email: p.green(at)dcs.shef.ac.uk www: <<<http://www.dcs.shef.ac.uk/people/P.Green/ ************************************************ Email to AUDITORY should now be sent to AUDITORY(at)lists.mcgill.ca LISTSERV commands should be sent to listserv(at)lists.mcgill.ca Information is available on the WEB at http://www.mcgill.ca/cc/listserv
