Dear List - Les Bernstein send me the enclosed announcement for distribution to the list. Best, -- DAn Ellis <dpwe(at)ee.columbia.edu> http://www.ee.columbia.edu/~dpwe/ Dept. of Elec. Eng., Columbia Univ., New York NY 10027 (212) 854-8928 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Position Available We would like to hire someone to work with us in our Psychoacoustics Laboratory. We conduct research in binaural hearing using a variety of state-of-the-art digital signal processing techniques. Part of the research entails collecting behavioral data while presenting spectrally and temporally complex signals specially designed to reveal how and how well human listeners process information that arrives at the two ears. Another aspect of the research is the development and evaluation of computer-based mathematical models that are used both to drive the research and to provide an explanation or accounting of the underlying mechanisms that determine the psychoacoustic performance. Our intent is to hire someone for a one- to three-year period. The principle responsibility will be to work with us to develop a variety of computer programs and routines which require a deep working knowledge of MATLAB, C++, and Pascal. Although this programming will be done in close consultation with us, it is expected that the individual hired will have the qualifications, motivation, and disposition to work independently without requiring close scrutiny and supervision. Remuneration will depend upon the specific nature of the individual's experience and duties.
