I would suggest looking at Moon and Lindblom (1994) in JASA and work 
from there.  Also Thomas Gay published (in the 1960s) on speaking rate 
effects on the F2 trajectories of American English diphthongs. I 
believe there is a JASA paper as well as his Haskins dissertation.
