Hello Andy and List, The following paper is relevant in this context, I think: Donald E. Hall and Joan Taylor Hess, "Perception of Musical Interval Tuning", Music Perception 2 (1984) 166-195. The timbre of the used harmonic complex tones was "closer to an oboe than to a flute". Burns and Ward's Categorical Perception JASA 63(2) Feb 1978 examines only pure tones. Andy Milne Reinhart Frosch, Dr. phil. nat., r. PSI and ETH Zurich, Sommerhaldenstr. 5B, CH-5200 Brugg.
