Christian, Barry Truax speaks to several categories of listening in his textbook Acoustic Communication (Ablex Publishing, 2001). Also you may take a peek at Emily Thompson's book Soundscapes of Modernity where she speaks to the changing listening positions of music hall experiences over time as architecture of music hall change.
