Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Jean-Julien Aucouturier, Laurent Daudet (guest editors) -- We are pleased to announce a call for papers for a special issue of Pattern Recognition Letters, on the topic of "Future Trends in Pattern Recognition of Non-Speech Audio Signals". By non-speech audio, we understand any acoustic signal within the hearing range of humans or animals, which is not associated with linguistic content. This includes e.g. music, environmental sounds and animal vocalizations (bird songs, etc.). The issue is focused on pattern recognition techniques that either depart significantly from the traditional frame-based models, or that take pattern recognition out of the desktop, into real-world, continuous, mobile, context-rich physical devices. The submission deadline is January 31, 2009, and the issue is targeted for publication in 2010. The guest editors are Jean-Julien Aucouturier (Temple University, Japan) and Laurent Daudet (Université Pierre et Marie Curie-Paris 6, France). Pattern Recognition Letters, published by Elsevier Science, is the official publication of the International Association for Pattern Recognition. It aims at rapid publication of concise articles.
