[apologies for multiple postings] 2nd Call for Papers - New dates Journal of New Music Research Special Issue on Music and Machine Learning Guest editors Rafael Ramirez and Darrell Conklin Machine learning has permeated nearly every area of music informatics, driven by the explosion of music in audio digital formats, the steady increase in size and availability of symbolic corpora, and the design and application of powerful machine learning algorithms for music. To provide a collection of the highest quality work in machine learning and music, the prestigious Journal of New Music Research will host a Special Issue on Music and Machine Learning to appear in 2011. Topics We invite contributions describing machine learning approaches to music processing including, but not limited to: • Music Classification • Music Generation • Sound Synthesis and Analysis • Formal Music Analysis • Computational Musicology / Ethnomusicology • Music Knowledge Representation and Machine Learning • Psychoacoustics and Music Perception • Aesthetics, Philosophy and Criticism of Music • Algorithmic Composition • Interactive Performance Systems • Digital Audio Signal Processing • Cover Song Detection • Expressive Music Performance • Harmonic Analysis • Chord Extraction from Audio Submissions must provide a thorough background on the music problem under study, a sufficient description of the machine learning method employed, including algorithmic aspects where appropriate, and a strong evaluation of results. We welcome submissions employing either symbolic or audio data, and also encourage methods that bridge the symbolic/audio junction. Submissions Submissions must be submitted through the Journal's Manuscript Central Site (not to the editors directly). On the Manuscript Type menu, authors should indicate "SI - Music and Machine Learning". http://www.tandf.co.uk/journals/nnmr Submissions should be roughly 6,000 words in length. This translates roughly to 16 pages using latex fullpage/12pt/a4paper/doublespacing. To be considered for the Special Issue, submissions must be received no later than November 1, 2010.
