The topic of the symposium, as usual, is basic aspects of hearing:=20 physiology and perception. ISH is a small collegiate meeting typically=20 held in a cloistered setting. The program is limited to 60 podium=20 presentations of about 25 minutes in duration so that there is ample=20 time for discussion. There will not be any parallel sessions.=20 Participants are expected to attend the majority of sessions throughout=20 the week. The total number of participants, including podium speakers,=20 is limited to about 100 people. Accommodation, mostly single rooms, will=20 be available in St. John=92s College. There are a limited number of doubl= e=20 occupancy rooms for those wishing to bring their partners. They will be=20 allocated on a first-come, first-reserved basis. ISH is a European meeting originally conceived as the European version=20 of the P&P section of ASA meetings in the US. As organizers of a small,=20 special meeting with a long history, we have the problem of balancing=20 attendance by the historical community with the desire to include new=20 people with new ideas. Accordingly, this message is being sent to=20 previous attendees of the meeting, as is the tradition, and at the same=20 time, to the auditory list, so that the larger hearing community is=20 aware of the meeting. Applicants should be aware that there is a=20 traditional bias in the selection of participants, with the European=20 community taking perhaps two-thirds of the places. The main point of this message is to provide the dates for the meeting.=20 In early July, we will send out the Main Announcement of the meeting=20 with information about costs, registration, St John=92s College, travel,=20 etc. In the meantime, if you think there is a hot topic on which we=20 should hold a special session, feel free to let us know what it is and=20 why you think it is hot. Those with tickets to the Olympics (or those thinking of getting=20 tickets) might want to note that ISH2012 and the Olympics are close in=20 time and space.
