--Apple-Mail=_01DD1C50-5AE1-417F-8765-09ADC0FDA0FA Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252 One postdoctoral research fellowship and one doctoral research = fellowship are available at the University of Oslo, Norway. Both = positions are available from January 2012. Deadline for applications: = September 2011. The positions will be attached to the research project 'Clouds and = Concerts - Mediation and Mobility in Contemporary Music Culture' = directed by Prof. Anne Danielsen and Associate prof. Arnt Maas=F8 and = funded by the Norwegian Research Council. The project is a collaboration = between Department of Musicology and Department of Media and = Communication. The overall aim of the project is to investigate the role of digital = technologies for the distribution and reception of music. Of particular = interest is how the content and value of liveness has changed with the = new forms and combinations of mediation and live performance made = possible by online communication and distribution. A second field of = investigation is the interaction of individuals in new digital = environments, particularly through the use of mobile phones. The project = is organized in two main subprojects: A) The role of =91liveness=92 in = the era of digital mediation and B) Activities of fans and audiences on = digital music services and social network sites=20 The postdoctoral research fellow is expected to contribute to subproject = A and the successful applicant should submit a project proposal that is = thematically related to this research area. This subproject will examine = how live and mediated forms are being used and mixed in contemporary = live concerts and/or what aspects of the contemporary live format that = represent =91liveness=92 to the audience, as well as how these may have = changed or not changed from the analog era.=20 The doctoral research fellow is expected to contribute to subproject B = and the successful applicant should submit a project proposal that is = thematically related to this research area. This subproject will examine = how different media platforms typical of the digital age are used, with = a special focus on the role of mobile media. In particular, we wish to = shed light on the diffusion and use of music on social network sites and = streaming services such as WIMP and Spotify, as well as the relationship = between mediated forms of sharing and non-mediated personal = communication. Experience from 'data mining' and/or competence in = quantitative analysis of large data sets will be regarded particularly = useful for the PhD position. Please see the following links for more information about the PhD = position and the postdoctoral research fellowship, as well as = information about the project (and results from the pilot project in = 2010) on this link. -- Arnt Maas=F8 Associate Professor, Dr. art.
