The position is funded=20 by the European Research Council (Starting Grant). The starting date can=20 be discussed. The position is open for two projects: 1) Bayesian approach to binaural sound localization. The first part of the project is to understand the distribution of=20 binaural cues for a given source location, considering a number of=20 sources of variability (e.g. noise, acoustical environment, competing=20 sources). The second part is to investigate how much of the behavioral=20 results in the literature may be explained in terms of Bayesian=20 inference, considering the natural distribution of binaural cues. The=20 third part is to test the hypothesis with specific psychophysical=20 experiments. 2) Testing a structural theory of pitch. We have elaborated a theory of pitch perception, according to which=20 pitch is the perceptual correlate of the regularity structure in the=20 spatiotemporal response of the basilar membrane. The project is to test=20 this hypothesis with psychophysical experiments. The lab is a friendly mixture of modelers and experimental=20 psychologists. It is ideally located in central Paris, in the Quartier=20 Latin, in close proximity with theoretical neuroscientists,=20 psychologists and neurophysiologists. The position is funded for two years with possible extension. Salary is=20 commensurate with experience and the position carries a full social=20 security and health coverage. Candidates should send their applications=20 (including a brief letter of interest, a CV and the names and contact=20 details of two or three references) to romain.brette@xxxxxxxx Please do=20 not hesitate to contact me for further details on the specific projects.
