In this project we plan to use an integrative approach combining exper= imental and computational methods to study the interplay and consequences o= f different pathologies on hearing performance. The project aims to determi= ne sound encoding strategies in both the normal and impaired system to unde= rstand which cues are crucial for determining performance in psychoacoustic= al tests. The adopted experimental methods comprise EEG (electroencephalogr= aphy), otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and psychoacoustics with possible links = to simulating these results in a computational model of the auditory periph= ery. The ideal candidate is required to have an academic university degree (Mast= er or equivalent) in engineering, physics, neuroscience, acoustics, or a re= lated field, but with a background and interest in biomedical signal proces= sing, as many of the experiments and data-analysis are to be programmed by = the candidate. Some Matlab, Python or other lower level programming languag= es/knowledge is desired. Good oral and written English skills are essential= and an interest in learning German is a plus. The successful candidate sho= uld be motivated for this project with the prospectus of being part of an e= xcellent research environment that offers a head start for future career pl= ans. The cluster of Excellence Hearing4All offers an interdisciplinary netw= ork of hearing scientists in the fields of neuroscience, psychology, biolog= y and medical physics with opportunities for international exchange.
