With so many ideas to evaluate, our team is searching for a Senior Research DSP engineer to help bring exciting new technologies to market. The ideal candidate will be motivated to improve outcomes of cochlear implant users through innovative solutions and excited to test novel hypotheses about how to affect meaningful change in patient performance. Primary Function Develop new DSP algorithms and embedded software that operate on custom hardware platforms based on DSP processors and custom ICs for use in cochlear implant systems. Duties and Responsibilities 1. DSP Algorithm and Embedded Software development - Develop new DSP processing algorithms supporting sound processing strategies for cochlear implant processing. - Specify, analyze and implement the embedded software functionality associated with next generation cochlear implant systems. - Interface to custom IC circuitry, conversion circuitry, analog circuitry, sensor/transducer interface circuitry, and communication circuitry. - Work with existing firmware and software to make design changes, performance improvements and resolve design errors as needed. 2. Planning - Responsible for software requirements analysis and software documentation (including but not limited to Software Requirements Specification, Software Design Description, Software Test Plan and Software Test Procedures). 3. Problem Solving - Address new DSP algorithm to enhance speech processing strategies for cochlear implant processing. - Address embedded software issues related to product performance through the product development cycle. Specialized Knowledge & Skills 1. Expertise in digital signal processing and analysis. Strong DSP theory background is required. 2. Strong MatLab programming skills. 3. Proven skills in implementing embedded software applications in C and assembler on a variety of DSP platforms. 4. Low-level fixed-point DSP programming experience. 5. Familiarity with digital and analog hardware design 6. Ability to work with cross functional groups to debug and troubleshoot systems issues. 7. Background in audio digital signal processing is a plus. 8. Familiarity with .NET/C# programming is a plus. Experience A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in the development of embedded software, preferably for an audio/medical application is required. 4-7 years of experience is preferred. Education & Training BS degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or a related field, MS or Ph.D strongly preferred.
