Post-Doctoral Fellowship Opportunity at the US Army Research Laboratory: Applications are invited for a computer scientist or a computational psychologist. The auditory research team at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory conducts research on the effects of the military environment on Soldier hearing and communication. The post-doctoral fellow would develop computerized simulations and/or psychophysical models of Soldier performance as a function of both the physical/acoustic and perceptual features of the operational environment. Expertise with Matlab, Java, or other coding platform required. Background with R, SPSS, and E-prime and experience with unstructured data sets desirable but not required. Post-docs with existing collaborative relationships and experience working on multidisciplinary teams preferred but not required. The post-doctoral fellow would work as a member of the Perceptual Sciences Branch in the Human Research and Engineering Directorate, U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL). The Human Research and Engineering Directorate (HRED) is the principal center of the U.S. Army Research Laboratory conducting research directed toward optimizing Soldier performance and man-machine interactions. HRED's scientific research in Soldier performance is directed toward the development of human engineering as well as cognitive, perceptual, and sensory neuroscience technologies and design principles to protect and extend and enhance the Soldier's performance under hostile and highly stressed conditions. HRED examines human performance in the perceptual, cognitive, and psychomotor domains in order to increase the body of knowledge of human capabilities and limitations, and to assess the impact of emerging technologies on Soldier performance. The Auditory Research Group carries out research activities in auditory displays, bone conduction communications, speech communication, stealthy military operations, and methods of hearing enhancement and protection.
