One of the most complete descriptions (based on auditory nerve recording)
can be found in:

van der Heijden, M and Joris, PX.
Cochlear phase and amplitude retrieved from the auditory nerve at
arbitrary frequencies.

One note of caution, the group delays at the best frequency appear to be
species dependent.
