There are several options available to you. Two very good options are
PRAAT available at  http://www.fon.hum.uva.nl/praat/
and SFS available at http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/resource/sfs/ .Both
provide considerable online resources (tutorials, discussion groups) for
support.

I will greatly appreciate information about software (shareware of
commercial) that can synthesize phonemes. The goal is to create a
continuum of stimuli, for example between [ba] and [wa] by
manipulating
formants properties (like transition time).
