Re: Recommendations for a spectrum analyser sought ...

Shameless plug: My Daqarta software runs under Windows and
uses a standard sound card. It would seem to meet all your
requirements except perhaps the bit about "little fiddling
around": You do need to perform an initial calibration...
but I imagine you did on the Ono-Sokki as well. On XP
systems that's all you need, since Daqarta can deal with
sound card volume changes on its own.

But on Vista/Win7 systems you may need an additional step
each time you run, to set the output level if you also use
the system for other purposes. (These Windows versions
"share" the total level range among devices, so you need to
make sure another device hasn't grabbed some of the total.)

Otherwise, it's pretty much "turn on and go". The latest
version 7.00 (out in a couple of days) will have greatly
expanded macro capabilities, including built-in "mini-apps"
to measure THD, IMD, etc. You can use these as-is, or
customize them for your needs, or use them as examples to
write your own tests and procedures. (I'll be glad to help
with that!)

Best regards,

Bob Masta
