Dolby Laboratories Employment Opportunities

Staff Scientist, Computational Neural Scientist

Science – Technology Strategy, San Francisco

Advanced Technology Group

This position involves theoretical and data-driven computational modeling for the evaluation and development of innovative technologies. Computational development will be informed by neural or psychophysical behavioral data with emphasis on cross-sensory and cross-cue integration. The position is in the Science Group – within the Technology Strategy department of Dolby Laboratories. It will require work in close collaboration with other scientists/technology developers/researchers in multiple locations.

Dolby Laboratories is looking for a self-motivated, talented individual interested in applying his/her theoretical and practical working knowledge of computational neural and psychophysical data-driven modeling to the development of improved and novel sensory-based technologies. This position will work closely with a team collecting perceptual and physiological data of human performance and response.

The position will include timely development of data-driven innovative computational modeling and implementation towards technological development. The individual should have expert skills working with novel data sets of various background origins with limited past history. The individual should enjoy working with new data and new problems with a moderately frequent turnover. This individual should have depth of understanding, background, and innovative capacity regarding quantitative modeling of cross-sensory and cross-cue integration. This individual should be an expert in methods, theory, and application of probabilistic statistical modeling, machine learning, and neural networks with a broad understanding of methodological approaches and proficiency in practice. An applied understanding of optimization and dynamical systems is highly desired.

This individual will work closely with scientists and developers, and a test execution team aimed to carry out scientifically motivated experiments. Data will be derived from methods of experimental evaluation including but not limited to, auditory/visual/cross-sensory psychophysical testing, behavioral and consumer analyses, and non-invasive human physiological measures such as EEG and galvanic-skin conductance, and pupillometry metrics.

Requirements: Candidates must have these skills or background:

·         A PhD in Computer Science, Computational Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience, or a Masters Degree or equivalent with at least 7-10 years of experience

·         Expertise and innovation in methods, theory, and application of probabilistic statistical modeling, machine learning, and neural networks with a broad understanding of methodological approaches and proficiency in practice

·         Proficient in methods of quantitative evaluation including methods of non-parametric analyses

·         Strong expertise and knowledge of computational and probabilistic models of sensory or cue integration

·         Applied understanding of methods of optimization and dynamical systems

·         Expert abilities to work with new data sets regardless of prior exposure to current topic

·         Prior understanding of sensory processing and experimental research

·         Strong interest in learning and researching new technologies

·         Proficient at writing technical papers/reports/presentations

·         Experience working in teams and a team-oriented work ethic

·         Highly proficient in Matlab

·         Experience with Python, C, C++, or Java

Also highly desirable is:

·         Knowledge of signal processing theory

·         Experience with speech, audio, or video technologies

·         Prior expertise and exposure using non-invasive human physiological measures such as EEG, galvanic-skin conductance, pupillometry, or other categorically similar methodologies

·         Experience working with quantitative methods of neural data analysis

Staff Scientist, Perceptual and Physiological Assessment

Science  – Technology Strategy, San Francisco

Advanced Technology Group

This position involves scientific theory-based experimental design support for the creation and evaluation of innovative audio, video, and sensory–based technologies. The position also involves basic science development with regard to use of non-invasive human physiological measures such as EEG, galvanic-skin conductance, or pupillometry as it relates to technological development. The position is in the Science Group – within the Technology Strategy department of Dolby Laboratories. It will require work in close collaboration with other scientists/technology developers/researchers in multiple locations.

Dolby Laboratories is looking for a self-motivated, highly talented individual interested in applying his/her theoretical and practical working knowledge of the fundamentals of perceptual sensory assessment and experimental design.
