[AUDITORY] Postdoc in Computational Neuroscience at Rochester

There is an opportunity to conduct postdoctoral research at the intersection of audition, neuroscience, and machine learning in our lab at the University of Rochester. The broad goal of our research is to understand and model the cortical computations that allow people to perceive and understand natural sounds like speech and music. Particular areas of interest include: (1) understanding the nature of temporal integration in different cortical regions and brain networks (2) deriving and modeling low-dimensional response dynamics to natural sounds, measured with fMRI and intracranial recordings. Our computational work is closely integrated with our experimental research, and the applicant will have the opportunity to work with and get expertise with a variety of human neuroscience methods.

The applicant must have a strong quantitative background (e.g. machine learning, statistics, signal processing). Prior experience with neuroscience or audition is not required, though a plus. Expertise with deep learning and latent variable modeling is also a plus, but not required. The ideal start date is January 1, but later dates will also be considered.

I am highly committed to helping everyone in my lab develop an independent research career. Applicants are encouraged to apply for independent funding and develop an independent research program. The University of Rochester has strong computational neuroscience and audition communities, spanning several departments (Neuroscience, BCS, BME), and there are ample opportunities for cross-lab interaction and collaboration. I expect to provide funding for up to two years assuming reasonable research progress. The official appointment is renewed on an annual basis. International students are welcome to apply.

We are always looking for ways to increase diversity and create a welcoming community. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
