[AUDITORY] Post-Doc position AR- and robot-based telepresence (3 years +)

-- Dear colleagues, please consider, if applicable, or distribute among your peers --

At the Audiovisual Technology Group, Institute for Media Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Ilmenau University of Technology (TU Ilmenau), Germany,

there is an opening for a full-time Post-Doc position, to be filled as soon as possible, on the topic

“Augmented-Reality- (AR-) and robot-based telepresence”

for a period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension.

Project context and researcher’s activities

The position is part of the collaborative project CO-HUMANICS (funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation) in cooperation with four other research groups at TU Ilmenau. The project investigates how co-presence of people can be improved by using AR technologies or telepresence via assistance robots. The main target group will be senior citizens, with the aim of enabling social participation and being together with friends and relatives, even in phases of limited mobility or temporarily insurmountable spatial distance. In the project, different versions of co-presence systems will be developed and evaluated by means of a user-centric design approach. Younger adults will also be involved in the planned developments and tests. The results will thus be valid for a broad group of users.

The research work of the Post-Doc is targeted towards collecting, analyzing and managing the research data from the different parts of the project. Goals of this research are, among others, to assess and model attentional, behavioral and communication processes of persons using telepresence systems, as well as the degree of co-presence achieved with different types and instances of AR- and robot-based telepresence systems. There is a certain degree of freedom in the design of the exact research questions and activities in the thematic field of the project. Considering the longer-term position, the research achievements could, if desired and possible, provide a basis for a German habilitation thesis. Within the project, the Post-Doc will assume central management tasks in cooperation with the project coordinator.
