[AUDITORY] COMiT-ES: Core Outcome Sets in Tinnitus - Electrical Stimulation

Dear list,

This is an invitation to take part in an online study that is being run at the University of Nottingham. As members of the list may be aware, experimental treatments for tinnitus include various types of electrical stimulation. Currently, there is no consensus on what outcomes (i.e. aspects of tinnitus) should be measured in trials that seek to assess whether electrical stimulation is effective for tinnitus. Different studies measure different outcomes, making it hard to compare results and synthesise existing evidence.  The COMiT-ES study seeks to change this by establishing a Core Domain Set, a list of outcomes that should always be measured when trialling this type of intervention for tinnitus. This is an extension of the COMiT'ID study, run by Deborah Hall and Kathryn Fackrell, which established Core Outcome Sets for pharmacological, psychological and sound therapy interventions for tinnitus (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30488765/).

To do this, we need patients' and professionals' views on what we should be measuring when trying to establish whether electrical stimulation interventions are effective for tinnitus. This includes clinicians, researchers and commercial representatives. Given the wide variety of experts that subscribe to the Auditory list, I'm hoping some of you will be interested in taking part. This study consists of two online surveys, a few weeks apart, followed by an optional online meeting. I've attached the Participant Information Sheet, in case you're interested. If you'd like to take part, you can do so via the link below:

If there are any other people in your organisation who might be interested, feel free share this with them. The deadline for the first survey round is December 20th 2021.

If you have any questions or would like to take part, please contact me.

Best wishes,

Bas
